When Devki, a young mother of her twin daughters, left for Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States, to escape from her ghastly past in the town of Jhansi, India, little did she imagine that her torments would only multiply in the new world. The historic city of Jhansi, stands as a symbol of bravery, courage, and self-respect. It came into prominence because, from this very dustbowl, emerged India’s own Joan of Arc, Queen Laxmibai, who retaliated against the British colonial masters, leading to what became India’s first war of independence.
