How to start writing

Writing is easy.
Anyone having an access to a computer or a notepad can write. All you need is thoughts and imagination.
Like speaking, writing is also inherent to all human beings.
Everyone wants to write. There is a writer hidden in each one of us.

How do i write
Every writer has a different style of writing and each follows his/her procedure.
My way of writing is very simple. When an idea or a subject occurs to me, i simply write it down. If i don’t have access to a computer, i write it in my phone notes or a notepad. Later, i store it in my computer. As i get time, i elaborate on my topic.
I try to write everyday. Like anything else, writing can be improved too by practice. When you focus and invest time in anything, it bear fruits. When you write constantly day-after-day, your sub-conscious mind starts to help you. You will start getting good ideas, your imagination will improve.

Technical Writing
If i am writing a technical book, i create an outline or chapter headings and then i start filling my chapters.
In technical writing, you need to be thorough about your subject. I would recommend not to write if you don’t consider yourself  good in that specific subject or learn before you write.

Technical writing requires lot of research. Make sure each code or segment is well researched. Try out all the code samples and examples.
Like anything else, have your own style. Write with passion and feelings. Put yourself in the shoes of a reader and see how you can help. If the book is intended to teach something, then see how you would have learned yourself and write according to your experience.

Fictional writing
When i am writing fictional stuff, I try to get the start, middle and the end of the novel before i start. It gives me focus and motivation to fill the blanks.
Then i just start writing and as my writing progress more thoughts come across. Sometimes as i write, i may get ideas on the later chapters. I write all these thoughts down and create a sort of outline.
In my initial draft, I don’t worry about the language or the grammatical errors. First draft should be writing down your thoughts. These things can be enhanced later or you can hire a proof-reader to help you in your language.

When i started my upcoming novel (title still being researched) I just got a vision of a girl with scars.
From that thought i have written some 65,000 words.
You should be able to see your characters. If you can laugh and cry with your characters, you are on the right path.

Book writing is tough because it requires discipline and hard-work. It involves lot of heart breaking too. Because you see your characters and subjects in a different way than your readers.
But you should follow your heart and improve based on the feedback you receive.

Today is yours, so pick that pen or turn on your computer and start writing. Writing is a journey, you pick things, you learn as you move along.
